Rihanna is about so much more than risqué ensembles that keep Instagram screeners on their toes.
When it comes to fashion, she's also a serious player in the sock game. RiRi, who introduced her first collection for Stance Socks in July, has unveiled a whole new set of designs that will give Rob Kardashian nightmares.
The new collection features 15 looks, from crew socks that say “RiRi” to thigh-highs to toe socks and thigh-highs emblazoned with the words “bad girl.” (In case you forget Rihanna’s Instagram handle, of course!) Just like her earlier limited editions designs, which were all united with a theme of “Murder Rih Wrote,” most of the new socks fall under the category of “Baby Goth Punk.” They’re “styles that pay homage to punk patches, goth through a feminine lens, and playful toe socks with knuckle tats that spell out different phrases,” according to the press release. The socks cost $18 to $28 per pair, and are available atStance.com or retailers such as Nordstrom nationwide.
Rihanna, who’s been named the brand’s contributing creative director, was very hands-on in the creation of the socks and plans to design another set in time for the holidays. For the fall collection, she even directed the photo shoot for the campaign, which is captured in behind-the-scenes video.
Candy Harris, vice president of the women’s division at Stance, said what many of us were thinking back when the first designs were released. “I know a lot of people are probably saying ‘Why socks?’ And that’s really the beauty of it,” she told Vogue. “And that’s why Rihanna’s perfect, because she’s constantly innovating and looking to see what’s next. Socks are not really a trend; they’re a fashion staple.”
es, we all need socks, but celebrity sock lines are definitely becoming a thing. Kardashian’s Arthur George line is probably the most well known at the moment, but there are several others. Last year, Snoop Dogg designed socks that read “Gin” and “Juice” on each foot, while others featured lions and marijuana leaves for the brand Happy Socks. Cash Warren, the husband of actress and Honest Company mogul Jessica Alba, also has his own sock line, Pair of Thieves. Warren’s pieces are for men, but his famous wife has conveniently been photographed in a pair of her own. Even Miami Heat star Dwyane Wade (and husband of Gabrielle Union) has been shilling his own socks for Stance since 2012.
Who knew socks could be so glamorous?
